I became interested in City Council when the City decided to put sewer on our street. Our house was already on sewer but I went door to door and met my neighbors on the street and heard stories about how this plan would severely affect most of them. I learned about the diverse group of people that lived on my street. Everyone had different needs and concerns and they were all at different stages in their lives. I also learned that most of the residents felt frustrated about the communication and transparency from the City.
So I took it upon myself to contact other cities, to contact the Cuyahoga Board of Health, the EPA, and research the project in detail. I contacted the City to encourage communication with everyone on my street who were all personally affected by this decision from City Council. I tried to encourage the City to help the residents more with the sewer conversion (eg. waive tap in fee, help with the main line cost and interest) but did not get help.
During this journey I began attending the City Council meetings and the Planning and Zoning Committee meetings, and witnessed the City Council making decisions that significantly impact households in our community almost every week. Unfortunately a lot of residents were unaware of what was going on. Most of these decisions don't directly affect every household, but when it affects yours it can significantly impact your life. To get more involved in Pepper Pike, I served on the Pepper Pike Civic League Board of Trustees and became the Vice Chair.
My goal as a member of City Council is to listen and communicate with all residents with a higher degree of transparency. The opinion of residents matter. Being a member of City Council is being a public servant. I would like to explore how to provide easy avenues for communication for everyone because I want to hear from my neighbors. I hope we can continue to be the voice of the residents and keep our wonderful City the best place to live!

Cathy loves all the greenery and beauty there is in Pepper Pike (a stark contrast from her prior home of West Los Angeles). If you look carefully at the photo above you can see Pepper Pike is the edge of green before the sea of grey/concrete. She would like to help preserve the wonderful character of Pepper Pike because after all we chose to live in Pepper Pike for a reason--and Cathy will strive to keep it the place we all want to live.
Cathy wants to listen to residents and get more residents involved in the future of Pepper Pike.

Cathy has served as the Vice Chair of the Pepper Pike Civic League.
Her goal is to provide increased transparency and communication with residents. She would like to revamp the City website to make it more user-friendly and have Council meetings on a virtual platform (even if the meeting is in person), as well as increase communication between the City and the residents and vice versa.
